Sex as a fundamental in advertising.
Scientists explained how babies, nudity and kittens in advertising affect our brain.
Psychologists and neurobiologists explain how the human brain perceives the naked body, how it is influenced by babies, kittens and puppies on the Internet, as well as what role female breast plays in the mechanism of love and promotion of goods.
About the naked body
A person evaluates the mind of other creatures according to two criteria: a) the ability to feel and perceive and b) the ability to think and act. These parameters are not equivalent. The greater sensuality/susceptibility we give someone, the less we evaluate the ability to think and act. And vice versa. This is a game with a zero amount.
What happens when a person takes off his clothes? Scientists from Yale and the University of Maryland found this with the help of a series of experiments on their students. The subjects showed photos of two attractive young people – Erin and Aaron. On one pair of photographs there were their faces. Aaron was shown with naked breasts, and Erin in a bikini.
After looking at the photograph of students, they asked to characterize Erin and Aaron. There were six questions in the questionnaire. Scientists asked about the ability to think and act (“How you evaluate her/his willpower? Moral qualities? The ability to plan?”) And the ability to feel and perceive (” What feelings he/she experience? Pleasure? Hunger? Wish?”).

In another experiment, students were sent to a dating site and asked to evaluate people first by their attractiveness, and then by intellectual and strong -willed qualities, as when hiring for work. The same story repeated: participants in the experiment evaluated people in photographs either by sensuality/susceptibility, or in intellect and will.
A similar phenomenon-faceism-psychologists found back in the 80s. Faceism is called the tendency of the media when depicting men to focus on faces, and in the image of women – on the bodies. At the same time, people of any sex associate the former with intelligence and will, and secondly perceive as inanimate sexual objects.
If you dig up even deeper, you can recall the philosopher Kant, who said that those who are directed to our sexual appetite turn into inanimate objects for us. Kant came up with the term “objectification” for this (depersonification). In fact, everything is somewhat more complicated. According to scientists from the universities of Yle and Maryland, when looking at the naked body, not depersonification occurs, but the redistribution of perception. We still perceive a person as an animated creature, but already in terms of feelings: pain, pleasure, desires.
And although everything is not as scary as Kant and psychologists of the 80s described, the redistribution of perception also has its consequences. The simplest example is a woman’s working with a male boss. With the slightest sexual interest, a man loses the ability to evaluate the business qualities of a woman. It is amazing how little we need (just a piece of a naked body) to switch to another wave.
About female breasts
Not so long ago, neurobiologists Larry Young and Brian Alexander published the book “The Chemistry Between Us: Love, Sex, and the Science of Attraction”. It tells a lot of interesting things about what is actually behind our sexual behavior:
+ Of all mammals, only males of a person are excited from female breasts. And human females are the only ones whose mammary glands increase when growing up, regardless of the presence of pregnancy. We are also the only ones who have sex face to face.
+ Female breasts as a male brain switch – not a myth or a joke. At the sight of a female bust, the centers of pleasure in the male brain suppress the activity of the centers of rational thinking.
+ Woman’s love for a man developed out of love for children. At the birth of a child in a woman’s brain, neurotransitiators of oxytocin and dopamine stands out. They stimulate milk production and cause a sense of pleasure when caring for a baby. The face, smell and voice of the baby are imprinted in the memory of the mother and are associated with pleasant sensations.

In 2009, Japanese scientists from the University of Hiroshima accidentally discovered that images of infants and cubs of animals increase concentration. They double -checked their hypothesis with the help of three experiments and made sure that it was really so. Children’s images cause a reflex reaction of tenderness, the mood increases, and this, in turn, leads to an increase in concentration.
